Knowledge behind 4C and GIA certificate

The most common diamond certificates are provided by GIA, HRD and NGTC etc. where the diamonds are chosen by considering the 4C's (Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut.) However, there are some secrets that the GIA certificate would not tell you about.

About 'Hearts and Arrows'

Many jewellers highly recommend ‘Hearts and Arrows’ diamonds for its perfect optical symmetry and superiority. However, this is not necessarily the case. 'Hearts and Arrows' is actually just a very clever marketing sales method! Symmetry is only one of the factors affecting the diamond as a result of the 'Hearts and Arrow' cut. It also largely affects the proportions, polishing and girdle.

To let you in on a little secret, the grade of diamonds in the GIA certificate would not even be affected by 'Hearts and Arrows'!
Why would two diamonds with the same clarity rating ever vary in price?

Amazingly, there are 11 different clarity levels that can be specified on the diamonds GIA certificate .However, have you ever noticed that diamonds within the same clarity level can have differing prices?

The clarity rating given is based on the number of inclusions found under 10X magnification where as, the price is distinguished by the size, location and colour of the inclusion. For example, If the inclusion was located in the centre of the diamond then the price would be lower than if the inclusion were placed around the sides. The beauty of the stone will be more largely impacted by inclusions in the centre hence the price variation.

At Bee's Diamonds, our personalised service allows our expert gemologists to educate and guide you through identifying these inclusions ensuring you leave with only the best diamonds in the market.
