Flawless and Type IIA
- Flawless diamonds are extremely rare, practically unavailable and highly valued. Internally Flawless diamonds are equally ranked in terms of rarity and usually come with minor polish details as stated under Comments section of GIA’s diamond reports. The reason for their scarcity is due to the limited number of suitable rough stones for polishing into flawless grades. Even if cutters are willing to take the risk to polish a flawless diamond, the end product only caters to a specific niche market, mostly investors and connoisseurs.
- Most jewellers do not want to risk purchasing a single flawless diamond. Instead, most would prefer to buy several diamonds of lower grades where there is stronger consumer demand for them. The probability of selling a flawless diamond within a foreseeable time frame is low. Diamond Types
When choosing a flawless and/or internally flawless diamond, it is imperative to consider its type on top of the common “4Cs”. A diamond’s type refers to its physical and chemical properties which can affect the value of flawless diamonds significantly. For instance, even the tiniest trace of nitrogen in a large diamond can translate to a big price difference. The following chart summarizes the type of diamonds in existence.
